Basic Loading and Unloading course (Awareness)
Course Description
The “Basic Loading and Unloading course (Awareness)” uses the course content from our nationally recognised “Loading and Unloading Course” (TLID0015: Load and unload goods/cargo) but with basic quiz-based assessment only.
This course is an introductory course only and is not nationally recognised for “TLID0015: Load and unload goods/cargo”. You will receive a Certificate of Completion only – not a Statement of Attainment.
You should complete this course if you are not currently working or are not in a job where you are able to demonstrate the application of safe loading and unloading strategies. If you do start working or change job roles, this course can be upgraded to the nationally recognised “Loading and Unloading” course on completion of the additional assessment tasks (including the Observation, Practical and Third Party Assessments) and further payment.
Course Outline
The “Basic Loading and Unloading course (Awareness)” will provide you with an overview of how to safely prepare, lift, position and restrain goods on a vehicle platform and then unload goods at the destination.
On completion of the “Basic Loading and Unloading course (Awareness)”, you will be able to:
- explain your legal obligations during loading and unloading activities
- prepare the goods for loading
- load the goods safely
- secure and protect the goods appropriately
- unload the goods safely at the destination, and
- complete relevant documentation.

TLID0015 Loading and Unloading course (Nationally Recognised)
Course Outline
The ‘Loading and Unloading’ course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to safely prepare, lift, position and restrain goods on a vehicle platform and then unload goods at the destination.
On completion of the ‘Loading and Unloading’ course, you will be able to:
- explain your legal obligations during loading and unloading activities
- prepare the goods for loading
- load the goods safely
- secure and protect the goods appropriately
- unload the goods safely at the destination, and
- complete relevant documentation.
This course is an interactive and engaging way to build your knowledge and understanding of ways to reduce or eliminate risks during loading and unloading activities. These risks may be to you (as the loader), to those around you (such as other loaders, drivers and pedestrians), and to the load itself.
The course is narrated. Once you have completed the last module, you will need to complete the Survey, Short Answer Assessment, Case Study Assessment and Third Party Observation Assessment.
We value your feedback and the survey will provide the opportunity to answer a number of questions about your thoughts on the Loading and Unloading course.
The Short Answer and Case Study Assessment will ask you to review a series of scenarios and then answer a number of questions based on what you observed.
The Third-Party Observation Assessment will ask you to submit a report, completed by a manager or supervisor observing you completing a number of loading tasks, such as:
- lifting and positioning a load on a vehicle
- restraining the load, and
- performing a Safety Inspection.
Your answers will then be assessed by our team, to confirm that all steps and answers have been completed and that they meet the loading guidelines provided in this course (for example, correct load restraint selection). If you do not pass, you will receive detailed feedback and may be asked to re-submit your video or photos or incorrect answers.
Once you have passed each assessment, you will receive a confirmation email containing your Statement of Attainment.
Course Duration
Please allow approximately 4 to 6 hours to complete this course and the related assessments.
Pre-requisite requirements
There are no pre-requisite requirements for this course.
Recurrent Training Requirements
It is recommended that learners complete the nationally recognised ‘Loading and Unloading’ course on a yearly basis to ensure their knowledge and understanding stays current. Up to date training will also help to demonstrate that reasonable steps were taken to prevent a loading or unloading related breach of Chain of Responsibility from occurring in your workplace or as a result of your activities.
National Recognition
The ‘Loading and Unloading’ course is delivered by Urban E-Learning Pty Ltd (RTO #31973). The ‘Loading and Unloading’ course is recognised throughout Australia. The course addresses the requirements of ‘TLID0015: Load and unload goods/cargo’ from the TLI10 Transport and Logistics Training Package. On completion of the course, you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment. This Statement of Attainment will give you a credit towards completion of 35 qualifications such as a Certificate III in Driving Operations, a Certificate II in Warehousing Operations and a Certificate II in Road Transport Yard Operations (Freight Handler). Refer to our FAQs for a full list of the qualifications.
Language, Literacy or Numeracy Skills (LLN)
Students will need to have sound English language, literacy and numeracy skills in order to complete the course and assessments. If a student is unsure whether they have the minimum language, literacy or numeracy skills to complete one of our courses, they can take an LLN pre-training assessment here before they enrol in the course. The test will help the student to check whether they can read, write, calculate or speak well enough to do the training and assessment.
